Episode #22 – MMP in the DMZ (Adventures in Journalism Special Part II)

21 09 2009

dmz_1024x7681

Welcome to Part 2 of our special comic-book topic of Journalism in Comic Books! To conclude our special event, we go over Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli’s DMZ, a shocking post-9/11 fictional piece with some of the heaviest material yet, not to mention some heavy critique from us! Plus, we give quick reviews of some of this year’s new hit games; including Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, Scribblenauts, and a second look at Batman: Arkham Asylum! There will be laughs, insensitive jokes, cranky podcasters, memorable buffoonery, and much much more this week on the Mild-Mannered Podcast!

This week’s installment of Masterpiece Comic-Book Theatre also contributes to Journalism by revisiting Superman: The Amazing Transformations of Jimmy Olsen, with Alex himself reprising the title role! Enjoy!

WE ARE LEGAL NOW! Kicking the 21st episode, the boys have not 1, but 2  special guests for the first part of this 2-Episode special on the topic of Journalism in the comic-book world. The guests, Carolyn (the Not-at-all-Mild-Mannered-Girlfriend to Music Man Mike) and newcomer Matt Koenig (Mild-Mannered-Rapist)  join the boys for a review of Warren Ellis’s Transmetropolitan Volumes  1-3, and yes, Sam will be batshit excited the entire time. Also, we hear about a scheme involving Hulk and Broadway, not to mention the fate of Alex’s Marvel Comics alter-ego in Savage She-Hulk. All this along with the usual (and often unusual) antics this week on the Mild Mannered Podcast!

Plus! Matt Koenig and Sam contribute a piece of Spider-Man: Brand New Day for this week’s Masterpiece Comic Book Theatre!

Episode #19 – Mild Mannered Alias

1 09 2009

jessica-jones-20050619105429769_640w

You won’t believe it, but the boys are officially off Skype and back to normal recordings! Take that, Void! And even better, Mild Mannered Music Man Mike (alliteration?) rejoins to reunite the trio as they dive deep into the world of Alias, an alternative Marvel comic simply fraught with metaphors, noir influences and the word “motherfucker.”

Also, they take time to extract reviews from Mike on the webcomics he viewed under meds, and Sam explains his love/hate relationship with Mark Millar and particularly his work on Ultimate X-Men. What is Alex’s Pick of the Week? What does Sam insist he’s picked in his heart of hearts? All this and more this week, tune in and enjoy!

Episode #18 – Mild Mannered Slices of Life

26 08 2009

It’s Special Treat Week again, as we flip everything all topsy-turvy to bring you a buffet–a veritable smorgasbord if you will–of webcomics reviews! Though sadly missing Mike the Mild Mannered Music Man, Alex and Sam wade through a pile of each others’ favorite webcomics, keepin’ it short and pithy all the way. Who is Charles Christopher and why is he so abominable? What makes “A Softer World” so damned creepy? And just how much does Sam like awkward female protagonists, anyway? All of the answers and more lie in wait for you!

And you better not miss our upcoming very special feature–highlights from Alex’s three interviews with Bobby Timony of Twin Comics, Scott Weinstein of After School Agent and Porter Mason, the cartoonist behind “Bassist Wanted.” You can’t find this stuff anywhere but here! Check it out!

Episode #17 – 100 Podcasts (minus 83)

19 08 2009

100-bulletsThis week, the mild-mannered team reunites as a whole as they give you the highs and lows of the first two volumes of Brian Azzarello’s 100 Bullets, but try not to get caught in the crossfire! Also, special guest Audrey gives us a review of her expedition to Comic-Con 09′ while the boys try to hold back their tears and envy. There will also be more attacks on Jeff Loeb (but respect given to Batman Hush), Alex confesses a dream involving Adam West, a quick shout-out to the hit manga One Piece, and the boys praise/rant about their zany weeks (which will include injuries, encounters, and,you guessed it, comics!)

Download and enjoy!

Episode #15 – Runaway Podcasters!

3 08 2009

runaways-cover-large

This week, the mild-mannered podcasters deliver a powerful review of Brian K. Vaughn’s Runaways, the story of 6 kids who find out their parents are super-villains… and Run Away (But obviously it isn’t as simple as that)! Also this week, the latest installment of “Sam Bitches a lot” involving Jesus Christ: In the Name of the Gun, the scariest trades of the week (most flesh/blood/soul/vampires/werefolf comics combined in a single week!), Alex describes his new love for Gotham Central, and Mike gives a quick look at Neil Gaiman’s Batman: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader!

But wait! Let’s not forget our newest piece of Masterpiece Comic Book Theatre with a reading from Eric Powell’s The Goon!

Tune in and enjoy!
