6 01 2010

Happy Holidays geeks and comic nerds around the oblate spheroid!! After taking a week off for moving back home from college, we are here just in time before the new year for our 33rd episode. This will include reviews of The Sandman Vol 1.,  Gotham Central, and Cat Getting Out of a Bag and Other Observations!! Plus, we go over what we got/did over the holiday, and one of us has a “Bitches A Lot” segment, but it’s not who you think it is! WE ARE LEGAL NOW! Kicking the 21st episode, the boys have not 1, but 2  special guests for the first part of this 2-Episode special on the topic of Journalism in the comic-book world. The guests, Carolyn (the Not-at-all-Mild-Mannered-Girlfriend to Music Man Mike) and newcomer Matt Koenig (Mild-Mannered-Rapist)  join the boys for a review of Warren Ellis’s Transmetropolitan Volumes  1-3, and yes, Sam will be batshit excited the entire time. Also, we hear about a scheme involving Hulk and Broadway, not to mention the fate of Alex’s Marvel Comics alter-ego in Savage She-Hulk. All this along with the usual (and often unusual) antics this week on the Mild Mannered Podcast!

Plus! Matt Koenig and Sam contribute a piece of Spider-Man: Brand New Day for this week’s Masterpiece Comic Book Theatre!

Episode #18 – Mild Mannered Slices of Life

26 08 2009

It’s Special Treat Week again, as we flip everything all topsy-turvy to bring you a buffet–a veritable smorgasbord if you will–of webcomics reviews! Though sadly missing Mike the Mild Mannered Music Man, Alex and Sam wade through a pile of each others’ favorite webcomics, keepin’ it short and pithy all the way. Who is Charles Christopher and why is he so abominable? What makes “A Softer World” so damned creepy? And just how much does Sam like awkward female protagonists, anyway? All of the answers and more lie in wait for you!

And you better not miss our upcoming very special feature–highlights from Alex’s three interviews with Bobby Timony of Twin Comics, Scott Weinstein of After School Agent and Porter Mason, the cartoonist behind “Bassist Wanted.” You can’t find this stuff anywhere but here! Check it out!

Episode #5 – Popgun Popped A Cap In Our Podcast

30 05 2009

And so we come to the end of our archive, with our lengthy review of Popgun Vol.1, “a graphic mix tape” edited by Mark Andrew Smith and Joe Keatinge. This was our first long-distance podcast, so in between the audio hiccups, we discussed Alex’s comic book bender in New York City, Sam gushed over the Batman: Mad Love hardcover edition, and Mike the Mild Mannered Thespian delivered a chilling performance of Norman Osborn’s barely-sane monologue in Warren Ellis’s Thunderbolts #120 for Masterpiece Comic Book Theatre.

Plus, Alex breaks down the funniest scene in The Initiative Vol 4.: Secret Invasion, a Public Service Announcement regarding “Ultimates 3” is issued, and Sam finally breaks down and reads a book by his favorite author.
